CHICAGO — A Utah-bound Delta flight reported engine problems and was diverted to Chicago O'Hare International Airport on Saturday afternoon.
CNN reported that the flight crew was notified of an oil level problem for the left engine of the Boeing 757-200 on flight 498 from John F. Kennedy International Airport.
A Utah businessman, who did not wish to be identified, was on the flight.
"Everyone on board was very calm, and the situation was very relaxed," he said in an email. "The captain assured everyone that large aircrafts are built to fly on one engine for an extended period of time if needs be."
The man said after they landed safely that fire engines escorted the plane down the runway as a "precautionary measure."
He also said that Delta had a plane in Chicago that was not being used, so all 92 passengers were able to get to Salt Lake by 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
