SALT LAKE CITY — A man suspected of robbing three banks was arrested Monday by Salt Lake police.

Just hours after a Bank of Utah, 711 S. State, was robbed, detectives tracked down Jose Manuel de los Santos, 40, of Salt Lake City, and arrested him for investigation of three counts of aggravated robbery.

De los Santos is believed to be responsible for robbing Brighton Bank, 1420 S. 300 West, on Dec. 12; Zions Bank, 701 E. 400 South. on Dec. 13; and the one on Monday.

Police continued to look for suspects Tuesday in several other recent bank robberies. Investigators said they believe there has been a spike in bank robberies in the past month.

A man who has always wears a hat or knit cap is believed to have robbed at least three banks since Dec. 6, including a Zions Bank and a U.S. Bank in Midvale and an America First Credit Union in Taylorsville.
