WEST VALLEY CITY — A West Jordan Justice Court judge accused of sharing protected information about a defendant with a third party was found not guilty Monday.

Judge Ronald E. Kunz, 50, was charged with misuse of criminal history record information, a class B misdemeanor, in 2012. According to charging documents, he discussed a Utah Bureau of Criminal Identification criminal history report of a defendant with a West Jordan police victim advocate, a court clerk and a City Weekly reporter.

Monday, Justice Court Judge Brendan McCullagh made a ruling from the bench, finding Kunz not guilty.

In August, the state's case was severely weakened when the judge ruled that a seizure of potentially key evidence from Kunz's desk was "unreasonable" and could not be used in court.
