CARBON COUNTY — A 56-year-old Logan man died Saturday afternoon after being struck by a train in Spanish Fork Canyon.
Sgt. Spencer Cannon from Utah County said a call came in from Union Pacific Railroad dispatch at about 1:53 p.m.
According to Sgt. Cannon, Stanley Lawrence "Larry" Litizzette, 56, was on the tracks for unknown reasons when he was hit by the train then fell about 20 feet into the river below.
The train operators from Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corp. saw the man, but they were unable to stop time, Sgt. Cannon said.
Litizzette's son said he was very close with his father and he did not believe his father was suicidal.
The father and son were duck hunting off of Highway 6 near Emma Park Road at mile marker 221. They both had guns, but it did not appear those guns were involved at all in the death.
The man was already dead when he was removed from the river by his son, but Sgt. Cannon said they didn't know if his death was a result of being hit by the train, the fall or drowning.
