KEARNS — Five people, all between the ages of 16 and 20, have been arrested in connection with a drive-by shooting Monday night.

About 6:15 p.m., five people in a silver Ford Mustang drove by a house at 4859 W. 4985 South. One of the residents was standing outside, and a person from inside the vehicle fired multiple shots, said Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal. The windows of the home were hit but no one was injured.

An officer who happened to be in the area spotted the Mustang speeding away and pulled it over. Inside, he found a shotgun and empty shell casings, Hoyal said.

Police determined a 17-year-old boy was the shooter, and he was booked into juvenile detention for investigation of attempted murder. Hoyal said he was also a juvenile parole fugitive.

Guillermo Bonilla, 20, Kelly Bonilla, 19, and Alberto Chavez, 19, were all booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of conspiracy to commit attempted murder and obstruction of justice. A 16-year-old girl was booked into juvenile detention for investigation of the same charge.

A motive for the shooting was unknown Tuesday.

All of the adults have minor or no adult criminal histories, according to state court records. Guillermo Bonilla took a plea in abeyance in August to misdemeanor drug-related charges.
