Sam Penrod reportingA 35-year-old Springville man was found dead in his home Sunday evening. Now police are looking for answers as to what happened.

Police and firefighters rushed to the home after the man's mother-in-law called 911 to report that several people were sick from carbon monoxide. The man's wife and two young children were able to get outside, but the man was unresponsive and later pronounced dead.

When emergency officials arrived at the home, their efforts to revive the man failed. Also, they could not detect any carbon monoxide in the home. So when his wife refused to let police search the home to see what could be wrong, officers obtained a search warrant. Police had to wait outside for a few hours until that search warrant was signed around 7:30 p.m.

We saw detectives spend several minutes in the hallway of the home, apparently trying to pick a lock to a door. Eventually they were able to gain access to the room. The police spent a total of about 45 minutes inside the home.

When officers left, they carried out one box and a bag of evidence, which investigators now will use to try to determine what caused the man's death.

Lt. Dell Gordon said, "We collected some evidence, but at this point we're not going to say what that evidence is. We are not going to speculate on what caused his death at this point. The medical examiner is involved in that investigation as well."

The man's name has not been released. His wife is still a patient at the hospital tonight. Police say the couple's two children -- ages 2 and 5 -- have been released and are being cared for by family members.
