SALT LAKE CITY — 150 children in Utah are waiting for something many of us take for granted — a family. Kobey is one of those children.

Kobey, 11, is a sweet loving boy who has been in the foster care program for years. He has a huge love for basketball and said that he's the happiest when he's on the basketball court.

Kobey faces many challenges including autism and several physical disabilities. He doesn't speak much, but he is determined not to let his disabilities hold him back in life.

"He has had a rough go of life, but he's learning. He does excellent at school," said Kobey's caseworker, Sandy Gustaveson.

Kobey prefers to play with other children, and Gustaveson said he would thrive in a home with brothers and sisters.

Kobey also loves firefighters, and when the Murray City fire department visited him Wednesday and made him an honorary member, he was thrilled.

When lunchtime, rolls around, Kobey really enjoys a Happy Meal. But, more than anything, Kobey wants a family.

"The biggest thing Kobey needs is a family that loves him that he can call his own," Gustaveson said.
