OGDEN — You might say Destiny Johnson was in the wrong place at the wrong time. She went into labor weeks premature, on a camping trip with her family.

But instead a miracle happened, thanks to a gas station worker who brought Johnson's baby into the world.

It happened at a Flying J Travel Center in Ogden, where Johnson had gone to put air in her vehicle's tire during her camping trip.

Flying J employee Michelle Sausameda wasn't supposed to be at work. She was filling in for a co-worker on the day shift. She went outside to check on the propane tank because an associate had told her the levels were low. Instead she came face-to-face with Johnson.

"I walked up to a car and there was a lady saying that she was having a baby," Sausameda said.

"I don't know if anything was going through my head other than I just wanted him to be OK. I knew if he cried, if I heard him cry, he was OK," she said.

It was something I'll never forget. It was an amazing, amazing gift.

Sausameda helped deliver the baby in the grass near the Flying J, next to the place you fill up your tires with air. But the baby wasn't out of the woods yet. The umbilical cord was wrapped around the boy's neck.

"I leaned forward a little bit and unwrapped the cord from his neck. As soon as I did that, and he started crying, I knew he was going to be OK," she said.

Moments later paramedics arrived.

Johnson and the baby — Braxdon Kincaid Crawford — are doing just fine.

"It was something I'll never forget. It was an amazing, amazing gift. It really was an amazing gift," Sausameda said.
