OGDEN — A large grass fire near Ogden's green waste facility Monday morning burned about 3 acres before crews put it out. It is the third fire Ogden firefighters have battled in 24 hours, and the 11th suspicious fire set along the Ogden Parkway Trail since August 12.

The fire burned dangerously close to some big piles of bark and dried leaves at the waste facility. Firefighters said they're lucky they got it out when they did or the fire could have really taken off.

Police don't know if the recent Ogden fires are all connected, but they are looking for an arsonist who may have started six fires last week.

"There is not an outside ignition source," said Ogden City Fire department deputy chief Eric Bauman. "There was no lightning in the area."

Two other fires started overnight at 2705 D Avenue and 2358 Quincy. The D Avenue fire started at 1:30 a.m. In a vacant duplex. Seventeen firefighters from Ogden City Fire Department and Roy Fire Department responded with three ladder trucks, one engine, a paramedic rescue, and ambulance, and one battalion chief. It caused approximately $25,000 in damage.

The Quincy fire started at 3:38 a.m. in a large dumpster filled with construction debris. Fourteen firefighters responded and it was extinguished without any problems. There was no damage to the adjacent building.

There were no injuries reported at either fire.

Anyone with information about the fires is asked to call the non-emergency line at 801-395-8221.
