SALT LAKE CITY — Former BYU quarterback Max Hall started his first CFL game Friday for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. And former BYU head coach Gary Crowton coached his last.

In a 37-18 loss to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Hall went 18-for-30 for 241 yards. He also threw his first CFL touchdown, along with a couple of interceptions.

Crowton, who spent four years as BYU's head coach, was the offensive coordinator and the quarterbacks coach before being relieved of his duties on Sunday.

Hall was recruited into the CFL by Crowton. He had applied for the quarterback coaching position at BYU the day before Crowton called to offer him a quarterbacking spot for the Blue Bombers — which Hall accepted.

The question remains as to whether Hall will be part of the Crowton fallout.

"I think I got better and I think that the offense is getting better," Hall said after the game, but before he knew of Crowton's firing.

It was still unclear to Hall if he would remain the starter for the next game, "I'm going to just keep working harder, that's their choice, but hopefully I'll be out there next week."
