HURRICANE — The Washington County Sheriff's Office is crediting quick action and a lot of man power for the fast recovery of an inmate who escaped from the Purgatory Correctional Facility.
Police said Joseph Graham, 21, escaped from custody in Hurricane around 3:30 Wednesday afternoon, according to the sheriff's office.
Officers from several agencies combined to search for Graham. The Spectrum reports a SWAT team searched a home in St. George following a tip around 7:30 p.m. but did not find Graham. He was captured on the west side of St. George just before 10 p.m.
Washington County is now investigating the escape. A sheriff's office spokesman told the Spectrum it will not release how he escaped for security purposes.
Graham was incarcerated on a misdemeanor warrant stemming from charges of domestic violence in the presence of a child, according to the Spectrum.
Now he likely will be charged with a felony escape from custody as well, the Washington County Sheriff's Office said.
