ROY — A FrontRunner train hit and heavily damaged a car in Roy Friday morning, killing the driver.

The driver, 88-year-old Everett Browning, of a gray sedan allegedly went through the crossing arm and then stopped on the tracks near 2700 West and 4800 South, according the Roy Police Department.

The car was struck by a northbound FrontRunner train at approximately 9:20 a.m. Browning was killed on impact. The FrontRunner train carried the car approximately 100 feet.

Investigators are still looking into the cause of the accident.

The train remained stopped as crews worked to remove the wreckage. UDOT said a bus bridge was in place from Roy to the Clearfield Station.

"If you do find yourself stuck in the crossing with those arms down, those arms are designed to break away — (you) can drive through them if you need to," Sgt. Curtis Gibson of the Roy Police Department said. "If you need to abandon the vehicle, get out of the trains way."

Updates will be posted as they become available.
