COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS — A woman has been arrested after being shot by a BB gun following a fight with her sister and niece early Saturday morning.

An altercation broke out around 6:48 a.m. in the area of 1600 East and 7200 South, according to Cottonwood Heights Police Sgt. Scott Peck. Sara Nuneviller was staying with her sister and three children. At one point during a conversation, Nuneviller hit her sister and "the two began fighting violently," Peck said.

The victim's 14-year-old daughter saw the altercation and began trying to assist her mother. During the altercation, Nuneviller scratched the teen's neck and drew blood. The teen then grabbed a small BB gun and shot Nuneviller in the hand.

Nuneviller ran from the house and went to a neighbor's house yelling that she had been shot and was bleeding.

Cottonwood Heights police officers responded to the incident, and Nuneviller was arrested and booked in the county jail on counts of domestic violence and assault of a child.

The 14-year-old told officers that she "was clawed in the neck by my mom's crazy sister."

Upon further investigation, officers discovered that Nuneviller had arrived at the residence in a stolen vehicle. Officials traced the vehicle to South Salt Lake.

Police checked for warrants for two men who had accompanied Nuneviller to her sister's home.

They were not taken into custody, Peck said, "but they will be leaving town."

"Everything that could have gone wrong, did go wrong this morning in the instance," Peck said.
