SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Officials say a pickup truck and attached trailer carrying 30 pigs broke apart on Interstate-15 in northern Utah, spilling some of the animals onto the roadway and killing six pigs.
The Utah Highway Patrol says in a statement that a wooden side-rail fell off the trailer, causing 11 pigs to fall onto the highway.
The six pigs that died were killed by the impact of hitting the road.
Officials say the other five pigs were recovered and put back in the trailer.
The accident slowed traffic when it occurred around 6:30 p.m. Thursday, but vehicles were able to keep moving through the area.
The Utah Highway Patrol did not release further details.
