HERRIMAN — A man has been arrested after allegedly following another man home on his motorcycle and engaging in a violent confrontation.

Police said James Anderson was riding a motorcycle when he pulled up to a man driving a truck, made angry gestures and then began following the truck July 18.

The victim, who asked to only be identified by his first name, Scott, did not want Anderson to know where he lived so he pulled over, at which point a physical altercation ensued.

Scott then went home and Anderson arrived at his home about an hour later in a Ford F-250, according to police. When Anderson showed up at his house, Scott saw the truck and immediately recognized the driver.

Another altercation took place as Anderson allegedly threatened the victim with a metal pipe and broke a window out of the victim's home.

In an interview shortly after the incident, Scott said he was acting in self-defense when Anderson confronted him. He said the motorcyclist yelled expletives and wouldn't leave.

"For whatever reason, the guy wanted to escalate it and keep escalating it," he said at the time.

Scott's family called 911 and feeling threatened, Scott pulled out a handgun and told him to leave.

Anderson was booked in the Salt Lake County jail on two counts of aggravated assault, threats against life or property, criminal mischief and disorderly conduct.

Police said they had been trying to identify the suspect from photos that were taken when the truck was at the victim's house. A Unified Police officer saw the truck and recognized it after having stopped Anderson in a routine traffic stop a few days before the incident. The officer identified Anderson as fitting the description in the road rage incident.
