SALT LAKE CITY — Baseball fans will experience an evening of nostalgia Friday, as the Bees follow a game with a screening of “The Sandlot.”
Following Friday’s game against the Sacramento River Cats at the Bees' stadium, the team and the Utah Film Commission will hold a screening of "The Sandlot" on the green.
The movie, filmed in various parts of the Salt Lake Valley in 1993, tells the story of nine boys during the 1960s who played baseball together and faced “The Beast” next to their baseball diamond.
Members of the film’s cast and crew, including Victor Dimattia ("Timmy Timmons"), Grant Gelt ("Bertram Grover Weeks"), Chauncey Leopardi ("Michael 'Squints' Palledorous), Shane Obedenski ("Tommy 'Repeat' Timmons"), Patrick Renna ("Hamilton 'Ham' Porter"), Marty York ("Alan 'Yeah-Yeah' McClennan") and Daniel Zacapa ("Grandpa Squints"/Police Chief) along with writer and director David Mickey Evans and producer Cathleen Summers, will participate in the event.
" ' Your killing me smalls' and 'You throw like a girl' are two of the most requested lines from the movie, said Patrick Renna, who played Ham in the film.
"I tried to mess up the scene as much as I could so it could be an all day long shoot," said Chauncey Leopardi when talking about the scene where he fakes drowning to get a kiss from Wendy Peppercorn.
Cast members will throw the first pitch and participate in batting practice with the Bees.
The sold-out game begins at 6:45 p.m. The screening will come at no additional cost to game ticket holders. Saturday, a carnival and screening will take place on the baseball diamond featured in the movie, on Navajo Street.
