LYNDON, Ill. — Authorities say a 19-year-old man was killed and six people injured when a van carrying the Utah band Dark Seas overturned on Interstate 88 in northwestern Illinois.

Whiteside County Sheriff Kelly Wilhelmi tells Sauk Valley Media that guitarist Colton Ericksen of West Jordan was thrown from the van and died at the scene of Monday's accident. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

Wilhelmi says the crash occurred around 1 p.m., three miles east of Lyndon when the van's driver apparently fell asleep. The van traveled about 1,000 feet before rolling and landing on its side.

Wilhelmi says the van's other occupants were taken to a hospital in Sterling with unknown injuries.

The Salt Lake City' band's Facebook page says it was en route to a show in Chicago.
