STANSBURY PARK — A 3-year-old girl is in critical condition after accidentally suspending herself with a rope from a slide at her grandparents' house on Friday evening.
The toddler was playing with other children in the yard of her grandparents' house at about 5000 North and Cambridge Way in Stansbury Park when one of the other children tied a rope to a slide, according to Sgt. Shandy Lewis with the Tooele County Sheriff's Office. Lewis said the girl put the rope around her neck and went down the slide.
The girl was hanging from the rope for about five minutes until her grandfather found her, Lewis said. She was "not very responsive," but was crying and breathing on her own. Life Flight transported the girl to Primary Children's Medical Center.
The girl is expected to recover, but Lewis said it is not yet apparent whether the toddler will suffer permanent injuries as a result of the accident. The girl was likely able to survive because the loop in the rope was big enough to fit around the other children's waists, Lewis said.
Lewis said police are treating the incident as an accident.
