ROOSEVELT — Police and the FBI are seeking the public's help after a man was dropped off early Friday morning at Uintah Basin Medical Center suffering from at least one serious stab wound.

The injured man walked into the hospital about 4:15 a.m. alone and under his own power, according to Roosevelt police detective Allan Tucker. He was later taken to a Salt Lake-area hospital for surgery, Tucker said.

Investigators have collected surveillance video to see if they can determine who drove the man to the hospital, the detective said.

The injured man's name is not being released.

The FBI is involved in the investigation because Roosevelt police aren't sure whether the stabbing took place on the Uintah and Ouray Indian Reservation, Tucker said.

"At this point, we don't even know where (the stabbing) happened," the detective said, "so we don't know whose jurisdiction it is."

If the stabbing took place on tribal land, the FBI would take over the investigation because the injured man is a member of the Ute Indian Tribe.

Anyone with information about the stabbing is asked to call the Roosevelt Police Department at 435-722-2330 or the FBI at 435-789-2112 or at 801-579-1400 after regular business hours.
