PAGE, Ariz. — Four days after two women disappeared into the waters of Lake Powell, authorities located and retrieved the body of one woman.

Dive teams, working with SONAR equipment, located the body of Valerie Rae Bradshaw, 29, of Sandy, at 7:12 p.m Sunday. Crews retrieved the body from about 340 feet of water that evening using a robot. Her body will be transported to the Kane County Sheriff's Office medical investigator, and it will be cared for by Mosdell Mortuary from Kanab.

The body of a second woman, Jessica Jackman, 22, who is presumed drowned, remained missing. Crews suspended the search Sunday night following the retrieval of Bradshaw's body, but will continue searching the same area Monday morning for Jackman.

The woman was last seen Thursday when the motorboat she was riding in collided with a houseboat near Dangling Rope Marina.

"This is what they do," Kane County Sheriff's Sgt. Alan Alldredge said of the search crews. "They’re really good at it, they’ll keep looking and they don’t generally give up. They’ll keep looking until they find them."

Alldredge said the teams had entered the third search grid area of Lake Powell's main channel using SONAR to scan for objects in the water.

"They’re looking for any irregularities, essentially, on the bottom of the channel," he said.

Officials with the National Parks Services were awaiting parts to repair a submersible robot craft that malfunctioned Friday. Alldredge said the replacement parts were expected to arrive Monday with the craft likely returning to operational use on Tuesday.
