PROVO — Construction is finishing up on the Nu Skin building expansion in downtown Provo. The building location involves real estate that at one time was a city street.
Nu Skin purchased the street of 100 West from the city of Provo several years earlier as they planned an expansion to their corporate headquarters.
"There is about seven acres of property now and we are going to have about two acres of green space," said the director of Global Facilities Matt Burke.
The new Nu Skin Innovation Center is being built adjacent to the company's headquarters along Center Street in Provo. The expansion project came to keep up with the company's growth throughout the world.
"We've doubled our business the past three years," said Nu Skin CFO Ritch Wood. "As we come into this building, we will be at 90 percent capacity. We feel like we are building for the future, but we are also trying to keep up with the growth we are seeing."
The glass atrium built across 100 West is a critical component of the project to connect the Nu Skin facilities.
Nu Skin believes it is a big part of efforts to strengthen Provo's downtown and they said the project will compliment the nearby Utah Valley Convention Center and the restoration of the Provo Tabernacle into an LDS temple.
"We've tried to put this building in a way that matches what we have done initially and what the city is trying to do with the downtown area," Wood said.
The new building will include a cafeteria and a café, both open to the public, with access from Center Street. The company's research and development branches will move to the newly added $85 million building.
"I look forward to the innovations that will come," Wood said. "This is a great step forward along an exciting path."
The majority of the building has already been completed. Employees will begin relocating departments into the building in August and the grand opening is scheduled for October.
