Man who shot 'telepathically' threatening neighbor sentenced

A Centerville man who admitted shooting his neighbor because he believed the man was "telepathically" raping his wife has been sentenced to prison.

Police say the man took a handgun that he kept under his pillow, walked over to his neighbor's trailer and shot his neighbor multiple times as the man was working in his yard.

When he was arrested, he told police it was in self-defense and he intended to kill him, claiming the neighbor had been "telepathically threatening he and his wife" and had telepathically raped his wife. Apparently, it was a claim that he had been making for years.

Remains identified as missing soldier's, Army says

Saturday night, Army officials confirmed that the remains found after an explosive device detonated in Afghanistan were those of a missing Utah County soldier.

Army Private First Class Cody Towse was reported missing after a powerful improvised explosive device in Afghanistan detonated where he was standing, killing four people. The military informed the family Tuesday that they had been unable to locate the 21-year-old soldier, but updated his status Saturday night to killed in action.

The details of his body's return to Utah were still pending Saturday night.

Music, people brought together to help man with cerebral palsy

Skyler was a little more than a year old when he was diagnosed with spastic quadriplegia, a form of cerebral palsy. Later, he developed epilepsy as well. Doctors told Steve and Margene Beckstead that they should institutionalize their son and forget about him. The couple refused to do that to their first son and took on the challenge of caring for him themselves.

Skyler always has a CD playing, and he's considered the No. 1 fan of his father's band, Flashbacc. For the 31-year-old man with cerebral palsy, the band is holding a fundraiser to buy him a new wheelchair-accessible van.

6 transported to hospital after 3-car accident on SR-73

A pickup truck driving in the wrong lane caused a three-vehicle accident that sent six people to the hospital Saturday night and closed SR-73 for several hours.

A pickup traveling westbound on SR-73 had crossed into the eastbound lanes of oncoming traffic and hit a minivan with two people. The minivan rolled and the driver was ejected.

After hitting the minivan, the truck continued driving in the wrong direction and hit an SUV head on. The SUV had a driver and passenger and a child in a child safety seat.

The child was airlifted to a pediatric hospital with serious injuries. The other two occupants of the SUV were transported by ambulance to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver and passenger of the minivan were also transported by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

Mia Love announces 2014 congressional candidacy

Mia Love announced Saturday her second candidacy for the 4th Congressional District.

Adventurer John Goddard dies with nearly complete bucket list

The man known for being the world's greatest goal achiever died Friday night at the age of 88.

John Goddard, adventurer, explorer and motivational speaker, passed away in Southern California after battling cancer. He lived to check off 120 of his 127 goals he set in 1940 at the age of 15, his nephew said.

Evanston police shoot, kill man who allegedly fired rifle around town

Police have released information about an officer-involved shooting that left one man dead after a series of shootings and a short high-speed chase Saturday afternoon.

In a statement released Sunday, Evanston Police said that an officer, as well as a Uinta County sheriff's deputy, shot and killed 43-year old Naim Keith Labaki after the man pointed a rifle at officers.

He had previously fired a gun in front of his parents' home and tried to rob a local sporting goods store, saying he wanted an automatic pistol and ammunition and threatening employees with a rifle and even firing at one, according to witnesses.
