SALT LAKE CITY — It was nice out this weekend. We can't blame you for wanting to spend time outside instead of in front of your computer.

WVC Police used drug investigation money to search for Susan Powell, audit shows

The West Valley City Police Department returned thousands of dollars meant to investigate drug trafficking after a report revealed that the department instead spent the money trying to find long-missing Susan Powell.

Man gets 'box of trash' instead of phone; warns of scam

A West Jordan man is urging others to be wary of KSL Classifieds and Craigslist advertisement scams after he unknowingly purchased a "box full of trash" that was advertised as a phone.

The man said he saw an advertisement on the KSL Classified listings for a Samsung Galaxy S3, and he went to purchase the cellphone on March 28. He resold it to a customer of his.

The man said that when his customer opened the box containing the "phone," he found instead a deck of cards, a lighter and some metal pins. The customer had recorded opening the box, and "it was pretty obvious that I got ripped off," the man said.

Colony of 40,000 bees found inside bedroom wall

A Provo couple will sleep a little more soundly after a beekeeper removed a hive of tens of thousands of bees from inside their bedroom wall Saturday.

A beekeeper located a colony of about 40,000 bees in the wall of the couple's master bedroom Friday.

9-year-old found riding bike on I-215

Police want to know why a 9-year-old boy was riding his bike on the freeway in the middle of the night.

According to investigators, a couple waved down police who said they found the boy riding his bike on I-215 near 3500 South around 11:30 p.m. Friday.

Police were not immediately able to gather much information from the boy, including who his family members are or where he lives, but were able to locate his mother Saturday night and forward that information to the Department of Child and Family Services.

Missing man with Alzheimer's found by off-duty officer

A missing man with Alzheimer's was found Sunday afternoon when an off-duty Unified Police officer recognized him from an endangered missing advisory.

Derald Nielson, 69, was reported as missing Saturday afternoon after his wife reported last seeing him at the home at 10 a.m. according to a Unified Police news release.

Nielson was located Sunday at 1:15 by an off-duty UPD officer. He was walking along a road in the area of 6200 S. Redwood Road.

Woman in coma for 4 months heals as loved ones raise money

Jennifer Strong was hit by a car on I-80 in Parleys Canyon last August when she went to retrieve a children's bicycle that had fallen from the rack on her car. Strong suffered brain injuries, broken bones, nerve damage, cuts, scrapes and other injuries that left her in a coma until December, when she began to wake up.

Saturday, Strong's friends and family held the "Eight Piano concert" at the South Towne Mall to celebrate music talent in the area, but also to help raise money to pay her medical expenses. They also set up an online fundraiser* for the family.

Since she has awoken, she has been moved from the hospital into an assisted living facility, where she continues to heal.
