MILLCREEK — A 69-year-old man with an advanced case of Alzheimer's is missing, police say.

Derald Nielson of Millcreek was walking his dog near 1300 East and Brookshire Drive Saturday morning about 6:30 a.m. when he was last seen. Around noon, the man's wife noticed he was not home, but his dog had returned. At 3 p.m., she called police.

Police have extensively searched the area, but have been unable to locate Nielson. He has gone missing before, they say, and traveled through Salt Lake County during that time.

Nielson has no identification, cell phone or money on his person, according to Unified Police.

He was last seen wearing a gray cardigan over a blue polo shirt with gray pants. He is described as a Caucasian male with gray hair and blue eyes, 6-feet tall and 185 pounds.

Anyone with information about Nielson is asked to call Unified Police at 801-743-7000.
