SANDY — A woman who just woke from a four-month-long coma enjoyed a musical performance raising money for her family Saturday.

Jennifer Strong was hit by a car on I-80 in Parleys Canyon last August when she went to retrieve a children's bicycle that had fallen from the rack on her car. Strong suffered brain injuries, broken bones, nerve damage, cuts, scrapes, and other injuries that left her in a coma until December, when she began to wake up.

Saturday, Strong's friends and family held the "Eight Piano concert" at the South Towne Mall to celebrate music talent in the area, but also to help raise money to pay her medical expenses. They also set up an online fundraiser* for the family.

Since she has awoken, she has been moved from the hospital into an assisted living facility, where she continues to heal.

"It's been very difficult. Long nights. Long days, but looking back, it's gone very quickly," said her husband, Nathan Strong. "We've got a long way. Her recovery has only just begun."

Jennifer Strong, a mother of four who has played piano for some time before the accident, enjoyed the concert. More than that, though, she and her husband said, they have been surprised to find out how many people care about her.

"People I've never met care about us, and that touches me very deeply," Nathan Strong said.

In a few months, Strong is hoping to move back home. But Saturday, she and her family were just enjoying a concert and the simple notes of music.
