Schools lift lockdown after report of suicidal man

TAYLORSVILLE — Four schools in Taylorsville were placed on a precautionary lockdown due to reports of a suicidal person in the area.

The schools have since resumed normal operations after Unified Police located the man.

The schools affected were Bennion Junior High, located at 2700 W. 6055 South, Bennion Elementary, located at 5775 S. Sierra Grande Drive, Westbrook Elementary, located at 3451 W. 6200 South, and Calvin Smith Elementary, located at 2150 W 6200 South. Authorities placed the schools on lockdown until the individual was located.

According to the Taylorsville Facebook page, the "Unified Police received a report of a suicidal male somewhere in the area."

The post said the man called the Virginia Beach police department, and the UPD worked to locate the man.

"There was never a threat to kids, but UPD wanted the lockdown as a precautionary measure."
