ORANGEVILLE, Emery County — A body was found in the foothills near Orangeville Saturday that may be a man who went missing in the area last December.

The body was found at about 10 a.m. and was lifted out of the area by a Utah Highway Patrol helicopter.

Search and rescue teams were looking for 25-year-old Matthew Alan Larsen, who has been missing since December when he was seen heading into the foothills, unprepared for the cold weather.

Early searches were hampered by snowy weather.

Police call the disappearance "suspicious" at the time, saying it was out of character for Larsen, who had little gear, didn't tell anyone where he was going and did not take his dog with him.

Police have not yet confirmed whether the body is Larsen, but the search group Saturday consisted of members of Larsen's church congregation, led by an Emery County lieutenant.

The body has been transported to a medical examiner's office to determine the cause of death and the man's identity.
