HOLLYWOOD — Katie Couric has experienced a variety of success in her career, including working for the Today Show, the Evening News and currently hosting her own talk show. However, in an interview with her Thursday, I learned that Couric has managed to remain "down to earth."

Sitting in the El Capitan Theatre in downtown Hollywood, I was able to talk to Couric and learned why she loves her job so much.

"I've done everything under the sun at this point in my career, and if I can't help people watching in some way, either making them smile, having them learn something every day, or have them understand an issue they might not have been exposed to, then what's the point?" Couric said.

Couric also said that despite the variety of career options she has had, she loves hosting her own daily talk show and it's where she wants to be at this stage in her life.

"I know it sounds really corny and weird, but I'm really trying to serve viewers by doing this job in any way I can," she said.

Sometimes when you urge people to get out of their comfort zone, it sounds great. But, what you forget is that it's sometimes uncomfortable. And I think that in that discomfort that's where real growth comes from, personal and professional.

As a self described "kid from Arlington, Virginia," Couric said that she has learned during her career there is no replacement for hard work and risk.

"Sometimes when you urge people to get out of their comfort zone, it sounds great," she said. "But, what you forget is that it's sometimes uncomfortable. And I think that in that discomfort, that's where real growth comes from, personal and professional."

Along with running her own talk show, Couric is also raising two daughters. She said she tries to teach both her audience and her girls good life lessons.

"We have to be mindful about how we measure successs," she said. "And the most important success comes from being a good person. And that's what I try to tell my girls."

Couric said that ultimately if she can leave her viewers with one message every time they tune in to her show, she wants them to know she is grateful for their support and she will give it her all every day.

"In this manufactured age we live in where there's packing and branding and everybody wants to project a certain image, there's something really special about a genuine moment," she said. "And a genuine revelation and feelings."
