SOUTH WEBER — There has been a rash of burglaries in South Weber city recently and homeowners have been too helpful to them. During the past week, multiple vehicles were burglarized along the 8200 South area of South Weber.

The crime spree seems to have occurred during the early evening hours, between 5 and 9 p.m. Ron Streeper had his garage door open as he mowed his lawn, only to find out that the vehicles in his garage had been burglarized while he mowed.

"We've been here about 26 years, and have never had to worry about this," Streeper said. "We've left our doors unlocked and our garage door is open while we're here."

Davis County Sheriff's deputies caught Streeper's culprit, but they're still searching for a group of other suspects.

Another resident observed his truck door open and went to investigate. He happened upon a young male wearing a hoodie over his head going through his pickup. The victim chased the suspect to a newer model, silver SUV, possibly a Toyota Rav4. Two other hooded males were in the getaway vehicle and they sped off.

Resident Mac Wilson wonders why people in the neighborhood haven't changed their ways.

"You'd think so, but a lot of the neighbors around here have kids at home, and usually somebody's always home," Wilson said.

And Wilson says that the people in the area of 2300 East and 8100 South never needed to hunker down before.

Again, the vehicles were unlocked, garage doors open, but the difference here is that it happened not only in broad daylight, but when the majority of the residents are home from work, outside, mowing their lawns, walking their dogs, having their barbeques, not worrying about being victimized. The crooks have made off mostly with tools.
