LOGAN (AP) — A Hyde Park man has been cited and his dog impounded for biting a 4-year-old boy in the face.

North Park Police Chief Kim Hawkes told the Logan Herald Journal a family was celebrating the boy's birthday in their Hyde Park home's front yard on Sunday when the dog suddenly rushed in and bit the child.

Hawkes says the German shorthair has been quarantined and its owner cited for having a dangerous dog, a Class B misdemeanor.

The dog's owner has not been identified but Animal Control Officer Nolan Krebs said he has been very cooperative. He's offered to cover the child's medical expenses and has arranged for the dog to go to a new home if released.

His hearing is scheduled April 29 in Hyde Park Justice Court.
