SALT LAKE CITY — Steven Spielberg's "Jurassic Park" was re-released in 3D and IMAX over the weekend, and the blockbuster is still raking in the cash. The film has made nearly $20 million in its re-release, and it looks like that number is going to continue to build.

The film is known for two things: Jeff Goldblum and dinosaurs. Well, maybe more than those two, but who didn't love the dinosaurs and Goldblum?

Anyway, the dinosaurs were amazing to watch and it's fun to look back and realize most of the creatures were live action and not computer generated imagery (CGI).

Hollywood seems to fall back on CGI these days for just about everything instead of going for the real thing, and after seeing this video I see why.

A three-part video was recently released documenting how the T-Rex for "Jurassic Park" was made. The process was painstaking, time-consuming and brilliant. A team of engineers built the T-Rex to actual size even though they were told time and time again it was impossible.

Take the time to watch the videos and you'll be amazed at the creativity and problem-solving skills of the Stan Winston team.

It would be nice to see practical effects like this in more films today, but the cost is extravagant and it takes an incredible amount of time and dedication, but that shouldn't be an excuse.

So many films today have a massive budget and they would greatly benefit from more practical effects. While some of the CGI today is amazing, one misstep can completely take you out of the moment and ruin the magic of the film.

When you're dedicated to making the best product you take on all of the challenges and difficulties to make sure you get the best possible outcome, and it would be nice to see more filmmakers take that leap.

"Jurassic Park 3D" is now playing for a limited time.
