SALT LAKE CITY — One week ahead of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' general conference, 21,000 young women filled the LDS Conference Center for a meeting directed to them.

The annual General Young Women Meeting was broadcast to hundreds of thousands of teenaged girls throughout the world to be addressed by the Young Women General Presidency and the general church leaders. They heard from their leaders about finding peace in unsettling times.

They were told to stand in holy places; a place, they learned, can be anywhere in a difficult world.

"A place where you face humiliation, a place where you feel no loving kindness, a place where you are mocked, bulled, or even physically harmed," said Sister Ann M. Dibb, second counselor in the Young Women General Presidency of that safe place. "Just like the prophet Joseph Smith, you can create and stand in 'holy places' even in the hardest times you have ever experienced."

"Stand in holy places for yourself and your immediate family. Your righteous example will be a source of great joy, regardless of your family circumstances."

The young women also watched a new video of the choices available to them now and in the future.

"Young women, generations are depending on the choices you make, your purity, and your worthy lives. Be not moved," said Elaine S. Dalton, Young Women General president. "I truly believe that one virtuous young woman, led by the spirit, can change the world!"

The Church's First Presidency also attended. President Dieter Uchtdorf spoke of life's journey.

"Be a friend to all, but never compromise your standards," he said. "Stand true to your convictions and faith. Stand tall, because you are a daughter of God, and he stands with you."
