SALT LAKE CITY — Aerospace firm ATK announced it is reducing its workforce in Utah, Mississippi and Ohio by 150 employees.

The company said 90 people, all from Utah, agreed to retirement. ATK said the layoffs are a result of cutbacks in funding in several programs, ongoing consolidation and reorganization, and changes in the business climate.

Those individuals who were laid off were offered severance benefits and outplacement services.

“Our Utah delegation continues to be instrumental in ensuring the United States retains its human space exploration program and continues to support NASA’s heavy lift vehicle, the Space Launch System, and our strategic programs within the Department of Defense,” said Trina Helquist, director of communications at ATK Propulsion Systems.

Earlier this month, ATK announced it signed a new contract valued at up to $81 million over five years with the U.S. Air Force Space Development and Test Directorate at Kirtland Air Force Base in New Mexico.
