SALT LAKE CITY — This week's Wednesday's Child is a tomboy who loves art — a simple way to express herself.

We caught up with her at a painting class, where we got a glimpse of a special talent from a special girl.

Of all the things 13-year-old Kayla could paint, she chose a flaming baseball.

"I am a tomboy, of course," she said.

She listened carefully to the instructor, but has her own idea about how she wants the picture to look.

Kayla loves art; it's her favorite subject. She said she expresses herself through creative drawing. She also loves rap music and sports.

Kayla is a happy child, but she is very aware of her circumstances. She is in foster care. She entered the system when she was 9.

Now, she is hoping to be adopted.

"I hate moving around from place to place," she said.

Kayla said she hoped her future family would see her story so that someday her life's picture will look differently.
