SALINA, Sevier County — One woman is in custody following a police chase and standoff on I-70 Thursday.

The incident began just after 8:30 a.m. when a Utah Highway Patrol trooper tried to stop a female driver between Richfield and Salina because the license plate on her vehicle didn't match the car it was registered to, according to the UHP. The woman, identified as Jaime L Warhurst, 36, from Mississippi, refused to pull over and a chase followed with speeds reaching up to 90 mph.

Two of the Warhurst's tires were spiked near U.S. 6, but she continued another mile until a trooper performed a PIT maneuver, causing the woman's vehicle to spin-out and stop, according to a UHP statement.

As a trooper approached the vehicle, he saw that the Warhurst was holding a handgun to her chin. Law enforcers backed away and called for a negotiator. About 12:20 p.m., authorities persuaded her to put down the gun and surrender, according to the UHP.

Warhurst was taken to a Richfield hospital for an unspecified reason and was expected to be booked later into the Sevier County Jail.

Part of the freeway was shut down for several hours as law enforcers tried to talk the woman into surrendering.
