SALT LAKE CITY — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints recently announced the creation of 58 new missions. With the expansion, two well-known Utahns have been called to lead over those assignments as mission presidents.

Former gubernatorial candidate, Peter Cooke, has been assigned to be the new mission president of the Washington, D.C. North Mission.

When Cooke ran against Gov. Herbert in the Nov. 2012 election for state governor, he was very vocal about his affiliation with the LDS Church.

"I am not the typical Democrat," Cooke said. "I'm an active member of the LDS Church. As you see here, I'm a devoted father and a husband, a strong family man and a believer in common values, in Utah values."

Also joining Cooke in the title of new mission president is John A. Zackrison. Zackrison is a lawyer for Kirton & McConkie Attorneys at Law.

Zackrison is most widely known for handling international legal matters for major religions, including the LDS Church. He served on the International Legal Counsel for Europe representing the LDS Church from 2005 to 2009.

Zackrison was called to preside as the president of the South Africa Durban Mission.
