(KSL News) The Humane Society of Utah is offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to the arrest of the person who left 13 puppies to die in a Riverdale Dumpster.

Only one was found alive when an employee from the Hancock Fabric store heard whimpering

The investigation showed the puppies were alive when someone put all 13 in one garbage bag and then wrapped that bag in a sheet. Gene Baierschmidt, executive director the Humane Society of Utah, says, "If somebody had made an effort to take these animals to a shelter, they would still be alive today. There's really no excuse for doing something like this."

Baierschmidt says his office has received several outraged calls offering to contribute to the reward fund.

If caught and convicted, the person could get one year in jail for each puppy that died.

Anyone with information should call 261-2919.
