ROOSEVELT — Police say a teenage boy led them on a high-speed chase in a stolen truck Saturday that ended when he crashed into a dentist's office.

The 17-year-old stole the pickup truck from a 7-Eleven in Vernal, according to the Utah Highway Patrol. The truck was spotted by a Bureau of Indian Affairs police officer somewhere between Vernal and Roosevelt just before 2:30 a.m., UHP said.

The officer tried to stop the truck, but the teen drove away, accelerating to speeds as high as 100 mph, officers said.

As the teen neared a curve at 200 North in Roosevelt, he lost control of the truck. He went through a landscaped area, uprooting several trees and shattering decorative concrete curbing, before striking a dental clinic at 481 W. 200 North.

A Duchesne County sheriff's deputy took the teen into custody as the boy tried to run away from the demolished truck.

The man whose truck was stolen was also arrested after officers discovered he had several outstanding warrants.

The crash did substantial damage to the clinic and to expensive pieces of dental equipment inside, according to Dr. Morrie Talbot, who owns the building. He estimated the cost to repair the damage at between $300,000 and $500,000.
