SALT LAKE CITY — An inert grenade in a passenger's carry-on bag caused a delay in security screenings at Salt Lake International Airport.

About 10:40 a.m. on Saturday at the airport, TSA agents detected a grenade in a passenger's carry-on bag during an airport security screening, officials said.

The agents stopped screening at Checkpoint One and out of caution established a 100-foot perimeter while law enforcement was notified. According to TSA, local law enforcement, a bomb squad and the FBI responded to the call, and removed the grenade. Officials found the weapon to be inert.

During the investigation, passengers from Checkpoint One were rerouted to Checkpoint Two, where security screenings continued. Checkpoint One was reopened at 12:18 p.m.

The passenger was taken into custody. No information is available about the person's identity or whether or not charges will be filed.
