ST. GEORGE — Gazing at the sleek surface of a classic car brings plenty of joy all by itself, but helping needy kids get toys while checking out a sweet ride that much better.

For the second year in St. George, a group known as Car Guys Care has thrown a car show to benefit the local Toys for Tots program. Participants and attendees bring their cars and unwrapped gifts for a fun day of car talk and Christmas spirit.

"The bottom line is every child deserves a toy at Christmastime," said Southern Utah Toys for Tots Coordinator Rick Massey.

Last year, the president of the Southern Utah Mustang Owner's Association Shane Dastrup and his VP John Heinz got the idea to bring all the local car associations and groups together for one big charity event.

The event was so successful that this year they had to move it to the local Iceberg drive-in, where there is space for the 150 cars that showed up Saturday.

"We've had a lot of support from business and individuals in the community and we've collected a lot of toys," said Heinz, who showed off his 1969 El Camino SS 396 in the lot.

Toys for Tots is run by the marine Corps Reserves.

"We just want to thank the public for coming out and helping us support the marine corps drive and bringing unwrapped new toy," Dastrup said.

Massey reminded folks that that missed the event that they can still help out Toys for Tots by donating online at ToysForTots.org. Those who are in need can also request that toys be delivered to them there.
