IRON COUNTY — The Iron County Sheriff's Office is investigating several cases of metal thefts and encourages people in suburban areas to secure their property.
On Friday, deputies received a report from a complainant after he discovered that a pile of metal objects on his property had been stolen. An investigation is currently underway surrounding this incident.
Currently, all metals have a premium price for the purpose of recycling which police believe has led to the rising theft of metal.
The Iron County Sheriff's Office has on record several cases of stolen property involving recyclable metal. All precious metals including iron, copper, copper wire, and aluminum are the target of these criminals. The sheriff's office encourages the public to secure these items if they possess them on their property. Property in the outlying areas of Iron County appear to be a prime target.
If anyone has information surrounding the metal thefts, they are asked to contact Detective David Mitchell at the Iron County Sheriff's Office at 435-867-7500.
