Police find alleged robber in closet after stun gun robbery

PROVO — While allegedly robbing a clothing store, a man used a stun gun to escape the scene,police said.

Weley Dowe Byington, 28, is accused of robbing a Gen-X clothing store at 1334 N State St. in Provo around 9 p.m. on Thursday.

Byington attempted to leave the store wearing their merchandise when he was stopped by store employees, who he stunned with a small stun gun. A third employee, who was near the door, was also injured.

Police were dispatched and found Byington in an Orem apartment, hiding in the closet with the stun gun from the crime.

Police arrested the Lehi resident and booked him into the Utah County Jail on investigation of robbery and two counts of assault. Byington also faced five outstanding warrants for his arrest.
