SALT LAKE CITY — Throughout December, KSL is going to take you places you just can't go: like behind the scenes at Pioneer Theater Company with "A Christmas Carol."

The Broadway production of the Charles Dickens' story ran for 10 years at Madison Square Garden. Now regional theaters, like Pioneer Theater Company, are producing the spruced up version by the Oscar-winning Disney composer, Alan Menden. The company has even added their own song to the score, "Link by Link."

"It's fun. It's a crazy, crazy number and I think it's a little different than anything that has ever been done at Pioneer Theater before," said the show's director, Karen Azenberg.

And while the actors are singing and dancing their hearts out, members of the crew are busting it backstage, making those scene changes look seamless.

"I think the play has that effect on people who walk out and think, ' who am I? How can I improve myself? And make the rest of my life, leave behind a great legacy, rather than a dubious one,' " said Ebenezer Scrooge actor Jamie Jackson.

With so many productions, this company knows it has competition but if you sit in their theatre, they say, prepare for the unexpected.

"This theatre hasn't been used quite like this before, I think, so audiences who think they know the way pioneer works will get a bit of a surprise, I hope," Jackson said.

"A Christmas Carol" runs at Pioneer Theater Company through Dec.15.
