SALT LAKE CITY - The Indianapolis Colts have been through a lot in the past year. They were the worst team in football.
They parted ways with the face of their franchise: Peyton Manning. They drafted a new face of the franchise: Andrew Luck.
They hired a first time head coach in Chuck Pagano. Then they saw said head coach get diagnosed with leukemia.
But they have survived, along with Pagano, and have created #chuckstrong, a Twitter hashtag and campaign to help the fight against leukemia. This has in the past seen players wear orange, dye their hair orange and even shave their head in support of their coach.
Now even their cheerleaders are getting in the act.
Colts cheerleaders Megan M. made a promise that if the Colts could raise $10,000 for research that she would shave her head at a game in support of CHUCKSTRONG. She was joined by Crystal Ann in this promise.
And during the game they announced they raised $22,000 and the cheerleaders went through with it.
At this point the team has gone from utter turmoil to a contender to make the playoffs. This team gets publicity for this terrible situation, but should also be getting attention for the great work they are doing on and off the field. This amazing story of people rallying together keeps getting better.
Perhaps the creepiest video you will ever see:
Johnny "Football" Manziel is taking the college football world by storm. He is a freshman that has taken Texas A&M football into the SEC and back into relevance. He might become the first freshman Heisman winner in the coming month.
And now he has the weirdest, maybe creepiest video anyone will ever see being sung by a 40-something woman to a 19-year-old.
The song is called "Johnny Football" and it is sung to the old tune of "Johnny Angel" showing just how old this lady might be. She is decked out in A&M gear and honestly doesn't have an awful voice.
But it just seems so wrong.
Go ahead and watch it, but remember once you watch it, you can't un-watch it. Good luck.
Maybe your kids don't want to play football:
Sometimes there are the big kids and the small kids. People normally try to separate them so it is fair, but when a Pee Wee Football league has only age limits and no size limits bad things happen.
That is what happened in this video. It seems like it is taken straight out of a bad football movie, like "Air Bud: Golden Receiver" but it's real. The one "evil" team has a kid that is way to big so they have to bring in special gadget plays, but first this hit has to happen.
This is where the kid everyone likes gets knocked out of the game and the team has to rally around each other. But, this is real, the kid who gets hit seems to be okay.
This has probably happened more than once, and with the growing concern over America's passion videos like this will put pressure on adults to keep children away.
This video is a few years old, but it is still real and a little scary. This isn't about forcing football out or anything, but another look at why people are worried about this sport for their kids.
Steve Nash's "Great" new nickname:
Remember when Kobe Bryant named himself the "Black Mamba." The most dangerous of snakes that can kill with one bite loading a gargantuan amount of venom into the victims. I've always liked that word gargantuan, so rarely do I have the opportunity to use it in a sentence. For all those that get that reference, your welcome.
But now, Bryant has given a new nickname out to one of his new teammates. This one is taken from classic author F. Scott Fitzgerald's "The Great Gatsby." The black mamba was quoted calling his teammate "Gatsby."
The L.A. Times had this quote from Bryant about Nash, "'I'm not working too hard, to be honest with you. The shots that I made were all jumpers. It doesn't take much energy to knock those jumpers down. Bringing the ball up and having me kind of initiate the offense and score and stuff like that, it's making me work a little more than I will when Gatsby gets back.
'When Gatsby gets back, I don't have to do that. The game's going to become even more easy for me.'"
He dresses up nicely on the sidelines while recovering from injury. Has a nice part in his hair and really could be a prototypical man from high-society in the Roaring '20s.
There are better nicknames, but honestly this is pretty great.
