Andrew Adams, KSL Newsradio One doctor thinks breathing the air in Utah is just as bad as taking up a cigarette habit.

Imagine folks sitting in the Salt Lake library, glancing at the paper, sipping on a latté, and looking up as a man is telling them that breathing that crisp, slightly dingy Wasatch Front air is the same as smoking five cigarettes.

Dr. Brian Moench with Utah Physicians for a Healthy Environment says it's true. He says Utah's pollution results in 2,000 premature deaths a year.

It's a problem that's being looked at. The governor's soon-to-be released budget priorities are rumored to include steps toward cleaner air.
