TOOELE — A driver of a semitrailer was killed Monday afternoon after the vehicle rolled.
The semitrailer was traveling westbound on state Route 201, exiting on the ramp to connect on westbound I-80 near Saltair.
"It appears the semi came in at a high rate of speed, drifted off to the right and struck the barrier and rolled over the barrier and down on the embankment," said Sgt. Terry Woodward of the Utah Highway Patrol.
The driver of the semitrailer was ejected from the vehicle. No passengers were reported as being in the vehicle. Officers are investigating the cause of the rollover and the name of the driver has not been released.
"We don't know if he was distracted at this point. We don't know if alcohol was involved or anything at this point. It's still under investigation," Sgt. Woodward said.
The ramp connecting state Route 201 to I-80 is closed while the investigation continues. Sgt. Woodward said the investigation could continue into Tuesday morning.
