SALT LAKE CITY — Veterans Day is not until Monday, Nov. 12, but many cities are holding events to honor veterans throughout the latter part of this week. And if you haven't already, remember to vote by Nov. 6. Polls close at 8 p.m.

Nov. 9
- Holbrook Elementary in Bountiful will host a Veterans Day event beginning at 9 a.m. Students have prepared a singing program for local veterans.
- UVU Veteran's Day Ceremony-hosted by the UVU ROTC department. 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in the Ragan Theater at UVU. Guest speaker -COL Val Peterson-UT National Guard, UVU VP, State Legislature. Vineyard Elementary school children sing various patriotic songs.
Nov. 11
- The Mormon Tabernacle Choir will do a special Veteran's Day program for Music and the Spoken Word beginning at 9:30 a.m.
- Official state Veterans Day program at the Utah State Capitol Rotunda on the second floor of the State Capitol, 350 N. State Street, Salt Lake City. Program begins at 11 a.m. and will feature guest speakers including Gov. Gary Herbert and Don Gale, formerly of KSL and the Deseret News. The UTARNG 23rd Army Band will perform. Parking is available in the lot on the east side of the campus or on the street around the campus.
Nov. 12
- Free meals: The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has links to lists of places in Salt Lake City that are offering free meals to veterans. Find the lists here.
Nov. 14
- National Ability Center's second-annual Saluting Our Heroes luncheon at the Grand America Hotel in Salt Lake City, 12 p.m.-1:30 p.m. To register, email Janai Martinez at Janaim@discovernac.org or go online: http://www.discovernac.org/SalutingOurHeroes/registerSLC.html

- Nov. 6: General election. For polling locations and voter information, visit vote.utah.gov.
Salt Lake Valley
- Nov. 9: Veterans Day with the Utah Food Bank in Salt Lake City 2012. Help process food donations and prepare packages to go out to families in need throughout the community. 3 p.m.-4:30 p.m. at 3150 S. 900 West, Salt Lake. More info here.
- Nov. 9: U of U Veterans Day commemoration. Free admission. More info here.
- Nov. 10: Utah National Guard 57th Annual Veterans Day concert at the U of U Jon M. Huntsman Center. 7 p.m. Free admission. Performances by Guard's 23rd Army Band and 600-voice Granite School District high school combined choir.
- Nov. 11: Utah Veteran's Day parade and celebration. Begins 11 a.m., route runs on 2700 West from Taylorsville library to City Hall. Keynote Speaker is Utah National Guard Adjutant General Jefferson Burton.

- Nov. 9-10: On Nation, a Veterans Day Tribute at the American Heritage School in American Fork, 736 N. 1100 East. 7:30 p.m., tickets are $10. Featuring the American Heritage Lyceum Philharmonic.
- Nov. 10: 7th Annual Celebration of Veterans at the Scera Center for the Arts, 745 S. State, Orem. 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m., free admission. Patriotic presentations, special guests and musical entertainment.
East of the valleys
- Nov. 10: Veterans Day Train on the Heber Valley Railroad, 450 S. 600 West, Heber. 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Veterans ride free; families and friends $10.
- Nov. 12: Veterans Day activities at Roosevelt Junior High in Roosevelt. 7 p.m.-8 p.m. Veteran recognition and patriotic concert; families welcome. Free admission.
Northern Utah
- Nov. 8: Utah School for the Deaf and Blind Veterans Day program at 742 Harrison Blvd., Ogden. 6:30 p.m. More info here.
- Nov. 10: Armed Forces Recognition Lunch, 11 a.m. at Davis High School, 325 S. Main, Kaysville. Free lunch and program for veterans and their partners.
- Nov. 10: Veterans Day program at West Point Cemetary, 80 N. 4000 West. Begins at 9 a.m.
- Nov. 11: American Festival Chorus veterans Day Concert at the Chase Fine Arts Center, USU campus, Logan. Free admission, open to the public. 7 p.m.-9:30 p.m.
- Nov. 11: Veteran's Day program at Central Davis Jr. High School gymnasium, 663 N. Church Street, Layton. More info here.

- Nov. 10-12: Veterans Day weekend — free entry into national parks.
