SOUTH SALT LAKE CITY — Police are looking for a man who they say stabbed and kidnapped a man, and then broke into an apartment and took the tenant hostage.

Police got a disturbing 911 call Monday morning from the victim who said he had been stabbed and kidnapped and was inside a car's trunk. An argument over money allegedly got out of hand, leading to the incident.

"We initially got the call from him, or SSL did, claimed he was in the trunk, had been stabbed and that he was here at the Cove Wood Village Apartments," said Sgt. Jeff Evans with Unified Police.

UPD immediately responded to the apartment complex at 3400 South and 300 East and found the vehicle in question. It was a fight over money and property at a Millcreek home at 1291 Gun Avenue that police say lead Michael Forgette to stab the victim.

"Whether he is high on something we don't know. The fight is not over drugs," said UPD Det. Levi Hughes.

"As (police) pull up to where the vehicle is at in this covered parking stall behind us here the driver of the vehicle is seen going over the fence fleeing on foot. There is one female inside the vehicle and then they did locate the 27-year-old male in the trunk of the vehicle," Evans said.

Police took the female passenger into custody; she is now being questioned about her involvement. As for the driver, police say he ran to a nearby apartment complex and forced his way into an apartment, taking the tenant hostage.

"He held a lady against her will for a period of time, hid out there from the police, let her know he was hiding from police and then made her leave with him a short distance from that area and then took off again," Hughes said.

Forgette was last seen wearing a black and blue shirt and gray pants. He has dark hair but police say it looks bleached and is a strawberry blond color. Police consider Forgette to be dangerous. Anyone who comes in contact with him should call 911.

"Right now this individual is armed with a knife, he is violent , extremely dangerous the public need to be aware of this and if you see this individual you need to call police, 911 immediately and let us know," Hughes said.

Police are still trying to figure out how the woman in the car was involved in everything; they say they don't know if she played a part in the initial kidnapping or if she too was a victim. As for the victim in the trunk, he is expected to be fine.
