MIDVALE — The streets of Midvale were filled with color and Mariachi music Saturday, as the Cinco de Mayo parade made its way through the city.
Community members, businesses and city emergency response teams joined the parade, celebrating the Mexican holiday.
Cinco de Mayo — the fifth of May, commemorates the Mexican army's victory over France in 1862 at the Battle of the Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War.
Though the holiday is a rather minor one in its mother country, in America, the holiday has become a celebration of Mexican culture and heritage, celebrated by Mexican-American populations, who are often joined by other Americans.
