TAYLORSVILLE — A 22-year-old woman fought off a would-be rapist along the Jordan River Parkway Tuesday afternoon.

Taylorsville Police Sgt. Mike Judd said the woman was walking her dog on a side trail near 3950 South and 1000 West around 2:30 p.m.

She told police a man with a knife grabbed her from behind and attempted to rape her. She kicked him and was able to escape, and the man ran off.

"She did sustain some bruises and abrasions," Judd said.

"I would just recommend that people stay on the main trail if they're by themselves, and not go off on these side trails," he added.

The woman said her attacker looked to be about 30 years old, 5 feet 9 inches tall, with short, dark hair. She said he was wearing a black hoodie.

If you witnessed the attack or have any information on who the man might be, contact the Taylorsville Police Department dispatch center at 801-743-4000.
